Exceptional Shirley Green
SENIORS
45 Years
of Lessons from the Heart

Elementary School in 1980. There, she taught grades four
through six. She later taught at Wheelock Elementary and
Hodges Elementary.
During her decades-long career as an elementary and
junior high school teacher, Green got to know Lubbock’s
first black city councilman, T.J. Patterson, who mentored
exas educator Shirley Green grew up in Lubbock, her. She believes finding good mentors is one of the most
graduated from Estacado High School, and has been important keys to success.

said Green. “It’s a good place for finding great people
and great opportunities.”
Green studied education at Texas Tech University.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, she continued
her studies at Wayland Baptist University, where she
earned her master’s degree in instructional technology.
She began her first teaching position at Hardwick
