grasslands. South of the fort is Agate Fossil Beds National
Monument, where large numbers of complete skeletons
of extinct mammals and dinosaurs were found in the hills.
At that site, a rancher, James Cook, secured an enduring
friendship with Chief Red Cloud of the Lakota. They left HISTORIC
behind treasures of their relationship as lasting stories of the Cactus Theater
Plains Indians.
