so real. What also made it special was the presence of the
only World War II veteran on our trip.
Another memorable place we visited was the National
Museum of the United States Navy. It was so interesting
to learn that water is brought in from each of the Seven
Seas to fill the huge fountain. Also, it was not difficult to
imagine fighter planes in action after visiting the National
Museum of the United States Air Force. Another highlight
was the Military Women’s Memorial, an impressive work
of art honoring all the women who have served in the U.S.
Armed Forces throughout our military history. We saw
so many more memorials and museums, and we left each
one with a feeling of pride, appreciation, and admiration
for our veterans.
I thought I was patriotic before, but after going on the
Texas South Plains Honor Flight, I am now even more so.
Observing these veterans up close as they remembered
their service, these ordinary people who found themselves
in extraordinary circumstances and who sacrificed so
much, makes me so grateful for them and especially
proud to be an American.
