Answering a New Call: Volunteering at Meals on Wheels
The call to serve didn’t stop at retirement. The Kolczynskis,
grounded in both military values and strong personal faith,
found a new mission at Lubbock Meals on Wheels. “I grew
up volunteering,” Andrea says. “When I was in the military,
I didn’t have much time, but I saw how even small acts
could have a big impact. Volunteering now reminds me how
lucky we are to be healthy enough to help.”
For Andy, the decision was deeply personal and spiritual.
“The more I grew in my faith, the more I felt the need to
serve. Lubbock Meals on Wheels gives me the chance to
share the blessings I have. It feeds my soul.” One moment
stands out for him—a simple but profound exchange with
a couple on his delivery route. “They handed us a small
gift—a flashlight keychain and a pen—and said, ‘The work
you do gives us another day together.’ That’s why I do this.
One more day with someone you love is everything.”
Service as a Way of Life
The Kolczynski family’s story is a powerful reminder that
service doesn’t end when military life does. Whether on the
front lines or the front porch, delivering meals and smiles,
they continue to embody the values they lived while in
uniform. Their legacy isn’t just in medals or memories,
it’s in the warm meals handed over with care, the quiet
moments of connection, and the enduring commitment to
lift others up. As Andy puts it, “We served our country, and
now we serve our community.”
