OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE
involvement of youth in volunteerism teaches them essential life
lessons and skills that not only instill empathy within them, but a
passion for service early on.
The importance of volunteering is rooted in its lasting impacts
on everyone involved, including the volunteer. Terra Gunter, a
member of the VCL board, believes that volunteering teaches
lessons “you might (otherwise) miss out on,” and that people
will not understand everything going on in their community
unless they make themselves directly involved. Terra also
describes volunteerism as a way to “connect back with people.”
In achieving our mission at the Volunteer Center of Lubbock, we

are hopeful for every volunteer to walk away from their service Serve Lead Connect
with lessons learned and a passion to continue serving.
